About Fowl Cay
Located southeast of Nassau in the Central Bahamas, the Exumas are made up of approximately 365 cays (pronounced "keys") and stretch over 140 miles of the clearest water on earth. This chain of islands lies between the deep water of the Exuma Sound and the sheltered waters of the Great Bahama Bank. The islands are a limestone and coral formation. The wind and wave action leaves these cays honeycombed with caves, yet there are numerous cacti, flowers and trees on them.
Located only 70 miles southeast of Nassau and 200 miles southeast of Miami, Fowl Cay is approximately midway down the Exuma Island chain. It provides a venue for those who want a unique getaway in the incredible Bahamian Out-Islands. The name Fowl Cay traces back over 100 years when the cay was used to raise chickens in this part of the Bahamas providing food to the local population. Fowl Cay is a 50-acre island owned entirely by one couple who live much of the year on the island. The cay generates its own electricity and makes its own excellent water from the sea, just to mention a few of the primary infrastructure items that make it self-sustaining with the exception of food. The island lends itself to vacations for families - small or large (up to 18 people), couples or small corporate retreats and seminars.
