Located five minutes from Christiansted is Buck Island, a U.S. National Monument, where beautiful beaches and fabulous snorkeling abound. Big Beard's offers a fun-filled full day on the island or a half day trip. Full day sails to Buck Island (9:30am-4pm) are offered on the famous Renegade, a glass bottom catamaran. Half day sails (12 noon-4:30pm) are offered on a 40' catamaran. Big Beard's also offers sunset sails, weddings and private charters.

Explore fabulous Buck Island with Mile Mark Watersports. Choose from a variety of boats for your full or half day trip to the island. The company offers a glass bottom boat, power boat, and six passenger trimaran. All trips include snorkel gear and instruction, and guidance on the underwater trails. The St. Croix Heritage Trail is a self-guided driving tour listing over 200 cultural and historical sites and attractions on the island. Simply pick up a free brochure at the local tourism office or your car rental agency, hop in the car and begin the tour. Square brown and white signs mark the site to ensure you don't lose your way. Please note that the tour is quite comprehensive and takes about two days to complete. The St. Croix Heritage Trail main office is located in Strand Square Courtyard in Frederiksted if you have any questions about the journey.

A native of Dominica, Ras Lumumba was born into a family of herbalists and gardeners. Ras lives and conducts tours in the rain forest while also teaching gardening and the use of medicinal plants. He leads a variety of hikes such as Salt River Bay, Annaly Bay, Mount Washington, Caledonia Rainforest, and more. Each hike offers visitors amazing sights and an incredible journey. Hikes can last anywhere from two to four hours so come rested and ready for the walk. Shorts, t-shirts and sturdy hiking shoes are recommended.

If you're a nature lover or history buff, you'll enjoy viewing the old ruins, flora and fauna of the island. A professional guide with the St. Croix Environmental Association will show you many of the island's ecological and historical treasures. If you want to get some exercise, have some fun or just fine tune your tennis skills, contact The Buccaneer Hotel to arrange a lesson or reserve one of their eight courts ($8 per person, per hour). The Buccaneer also has an 18-hole golf course where non-guests can pay a greens fee of $30. Carts usually rent for $18. Call for reservations.

Virgin Kayak is the place to go on St. Croix if you're interested in a true kayaking adventure. The shop offers the best kayaks and gear for its guests and beginner to expert kayak tours. Ask about the Hobie Mirage which allows passengers to both paddle and peddle for effortless enjoyment. Choose from a variety of tours such as Salt River Bay National Park, the North Shore or Salt River West to Cane Bay. General kayak rentals are also available. Open daily. Credit cards not accepted.

Located in West End St. Croix about 10 minutes from Frederiksted is the Cruzan Rum Factory. Tour the factory to learn how rum is produced and bottled and then enjoy a complimentary rum drink. You'll also have the opportunity to purchase their dark, light or flavored rums. Tours are offered Monday-Friday, 9am-11:30am and 1pm-4:15pm. $4 admission fee.
