Virgin Gorda - Water SportsScuba & SnorkelDive BVI Leverick Bay 284-495-7328 or 800-848-7078 Website www.divebvi.com
Dive BVI offers trips to some of the most well-known dive sites in the Virgin Islands. Morning, afternoon and night dives are available. Be sure to ask about the famous RMS Rhone dive. The group also offers snorkel trips to Anegada, an island north of Virgin Gorda known for its spectacular reefs. Devil's Bay Beach After you've spent time exploring The Baths, be sure to hike the 15-minute path through these great boulders south to Devil's Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. You have to climb a few rocks and squeeze through small spaces but the beautiful beach at the trail's end is worth the effort. Be sure to bring along your snorkel gear because this is another great spot for snorkeling and swimming. The Baths The Baths are arguably the most famous site in the BVIs. Large boulder formations create caves and pools of water located at the southern tip of the island. The area is frequented by tourists and is often crowded so it's best to go early morning or late afternoon to avoid tourists. Vendors selling beverages, island jewelry and souvenirs are located on the main beach. Just a short walk from the beach, Top of The Baths (284-495-5497) is a restaurant with a small pool and patio overlooking the water. They serve sandwiches, salads and frozen drinks. Open daily 8am-10pm. Day TripsNorman Island An incredible snorkeling destination, Norman Island is a popular place to drop anchor. Legend says buried treasure can be found in one of the many island caves. The island is supposedly the basis for Robert Louis Stevenson's novel Treasure Island. Just off Norman Island are The Indians, large rock formations similar to an Indian headdress, which make for good snorkeling, as well. Anegada Located north of Virgin Gorda, Anegada is known for its 300+ wreckages off Horseshoe Reef. The island is a flat coral and limestone atoll that never reaches more than 28 feet above sea level and, therefore, is virtually undetectable from afar. Anegada offers excellent snorkeling off its reefs and white sand beaches that stretch for miles. Fly BVI (284-495-1747) operating out of Tortola offers sightseeing tours of the island.
